Teachers in two Haringey secondary schools are today on strike after headteachers tried to chose their union rep.

NUT members at Fortismere School in Muswell Hill and Highgate Wood School in Crouch End are furious after they received a letter demanding their rep Julie Davies was removed as a pre-condition to agreeing to facility time.

Julie Davies is currently suspended pending an investigation.

A spokesperson for Haringey NUT said: “We are concerned the suspension of Haringey NUT Secretary, Julie Davies, by Haringey Council is a politically motivated and baseless attack on an effective and well-respected NUT Secretary, with an exemplary record of defending NUT members in Haringey.

“We assert and will defend the rights of trade union members to choose who represents them and will oppose with collective action any attempts to attack the union and those who lead us.”
