Prospect says it is committed to eradicate racism in football and society

The union representing football referees has given its full support to Mark Clattenburg in the wake of the Chelsea race row.

The referee is waiting to hear whether he faces a Football Association investigation after Chelsea FC accused him of using “inappropriate language” towards two of its players in yesterday’s match against Manchester United.

Prospect national secretary Alan Leighton said “We are is committed to helping to eradicate racism in football and in society generally. In the context of that commitment, we offering full support to Mark Clattenburg in relation to the allegations made against him. It is now important that the allegations are fully investigated through the proper process as quickly as possible. We will be making no further comment at this stage.”
