Unite general secretary Len McCluskey is opposed to his union breaking its link with the Labour Party.

In a Tweet this morning, the union said: “Len McCluskey said very clearly last week that he does not back Unite disaffiliating from Labour.”

The comment comes as Unite branches in Scotland have tabled resolutions calling for the union to break the link. USi understands the branches do not want to be tied down to supporting solely Labour, when many believe the SNP better represents working people.

The mainstream media at the weekend reported Len McCluskey threatening to withdraw funding from the Labour Party if it moved to the right and the new leader did not adequately represent working people.
