Walmart is the biggest private sector employer in the world. What happens at Walmart affects us all, whether it is employment conditions, the destruction of heritage and environment, or the domination of a corporate behemoth destroying local traders.
Today Walmart was nominated for the Public Eye Lifetime Award which is sponsored by Greenpeace Switzerland and Berne Declaration. Walmart is one of six companies nominated because of its unfair treatment of workers.
Can you vote for Walmart today?
Walmart has a bad reputation for its treatment of garment workers. We all remember the images on our TV and internet of workers in Bangladesh that perished in the Rana Plaza building collapse in Bangladesh. Those families are still waiting for fair compensation from this terrible tragedy. Walmart and other companies have not done enough to ensure that Bangladesh factories are safe for workers.
Today Walmart workers in more than 10 countries are calling for Walmart to provide living wages and decent work for all of its workers. Workers in Brazil, South Africa, Mexico and the United States all understand the importance of standing up together in protest.
Next week Walmart workers will go on strike across the United States for Walmart’s continued retaliation towards them for speaking out.
We will not let Walmart continue to ignore the calls for the company to do better. We need your vote today to shame Walmart into action.
Your vote for Walmart for the Public Eye Lifetime Award will shine the public spotlight on Walmart around the world.
The time has come to end corporate greed!
- Vote today for Walmart for the Public Eye Lifetime Award because Walmart is the worst corporation of all time!
