Aidan Burley MP, Chairman of Trade Union Reform Campaign

The PCS has condemned the appointment of Aidan Burley to the Work and Pensions Select Committee.

The MP, who was sacked as a Parliamentary private secretary after attending a Nazi-themed stag party, is better known to UnionNews readers as the man leading the campaign to remove facility time for reps and for leading the charge for regional pay.

He was also in trouble for tweeting his views that the Olympics opening ceremony was “multicultural” crap, so many people were surprised to see him appointed to the select committee.

A spokesperson for PCS said: “The fact that this odious little man is still even in Parliament is bad enough, but he is quite obviously not fit to scrutinise the government’s brutal plans for our welfare state, which does not discriminate on the basis of culture and remains one of our nation’s greatest achievements.”
