Sukhdeo Bavri says:

“My name is Sukhdeo Bavri. I am a resident of District Nagaur in Rajasthan. I have been coming to work in brick kilns of Gujarat for last 15 years. Four years back, I came in contact with Prayas team in Gujarat. I became a member of the brick kiln workers’ union that was set up. I participated actively in the strike that took place in the year 2009. As a result of the strike and many more struggles in subsequent years, our wages have more than doubled in the last four years. The union has also supported education of our children. As a result of active lobbying with the state government, schools have been opened in the brick kilns in Gujarat. In my home area in Rajasthan, every year a migratory hostel is run by the Government where brick kiln workers leave behind their children. Union has helped us access Government health and early childhood care services. I am now taking active part in formation of a Trade Union in my home state of Rajasthan. I have been elected as the Treasurer of the Union.”
