Union says proposals for Sizewell C are important step on road to delivering world class jobs and skills

Plans to build a new nuclear power station at Sizewell have been welcomed by Prospect.

EDF Energy says as many as 25,000 ’employment opportunities’ could be created in Suffolk if project is given the go-ahead after a consultation that launched yesterday.

Prospect general secretary designate Mike Clancy said: “This is an important step on the road to delivering world class jobs and skills for Suffolk and the UK, as well as the future generation of electricity in the UK.

“Consultation with local communities and other stakeholders will be necessarily robust. Prospect believes that the boost to the local economy by the construction and then the operation of the new station as a part of a balanced energy policy is an important consideration.

“The consultation process is another example of the serious commitment by EDF Energy to investing in new nuclear in Britain.”
