Yesterday we held a web conference with eminent Greek economist Yanis Varoufakis, author of The Global Minotaur. Yanis spoke about the Eurozone crisis, and how political paralysis on both sides of the Atlantic is paralysing the policy responses needed to address the crisis. Only citizens’ activism – such as the strikes and demonstrations of the 14th of November – can pressurise politicians into action.

Yanis also addressed the conspiracy theory that it is in the US interest for the Euro to collapse, and spoke about the role of the BRICS in providing a growth engine for the world economy. Yanis spoke at length about the slow down in the Chinese economy, and the implications this has for a return to growth.
