RMT members vote for action in two separate disputes
In both disputes members have voted by well over 80% for action in large turn outs. The results will now be considered by the union executive.
Earlier today, RMT members at Network Rail voted for strike action.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “The union had no option but to move to a ballot of both the directly employed DLR staff and those hired in through Interserve in these two separate disputes. The union will not sit back while core issues on pay and working conditions are left unresolved. The ballot results have delivered a huge democratic mandate that the political class could only dream of.
“Our reps were in no doubt that we needed to send a clear message to management that staff are prepared to fight to demand decent rewards and recognition, a safe working environment, decent working conditions and will not be forced into accepting inferior pay arrangements from either KAD or their approved contractors . Our members have now sent that message loud and clear.
“RMT’S executive will now consider our next moves and the union remains available for talks in both disputes.”
RMT reps have been involved in extensive talks with Keolis/Amey Docklands management regarding the 2015 pay review and other issues including the shifting of the pay anniversary date. Following a series of meetings, the company had failed to table a suitable pay offer and having noted the views of both reps and members, the RMT executive took the decision to conduct a ballot for strike action.
The RMT believes all DLR staff deserve to be property rewarded for the hard work and commitment that they have shown to the company over this last year and that means receiving a pay award that increases wages in real terms as well as improvements to members terms and conditions.
Meanwhile, in a separate dispute, RMT balloted staff on a contract awarded by Keolis/Amey Docklands to notorious anti-union facilities company Interserve.
RMT reps have been in talks with Interserve management regarding a whole series of issues that remain unresolved and the union took the decision to conduct a ballot for strike action to protest against management’s failure to resolve the following:-
* Members not being paid correctly or not being paid at all for the work you have done.
* Members not receiving proper payslips.
* Members not receiving set hours contract of employment and rosters, which we were told would be given to staff 3 months ago.
* Members not receiving pay increases which maintain the differentials between grades. This is a long-standing claim from when the contract was with Carlisle Cleaning & Security.
That ballot results will now be considered by RMT’S executive as the union looks to move both disputes forwards.
