Union activists in the UK won a major victory today after a breakthrough agreement was reached between Unite and the companies behind London’s massive rail infrastructure project, Crossrail. Crossrail contractors had been accused of blacklisting trade union activists after a Unite steward, Frank Morris, lost his job for raising safety concerns.
Blacklisting is an ongoing scandal in the UK construction industry, and recent media exposes have revealed high-level, illegal collusion by executives in major construction companies to exclude union activists from the industry.
The agreement with Unite will also see the reinstatement of Frank Morris. Unite stewards will be aloud to address workers, and organise on Crossrail sites.
This is a major victory for union activists, and shows that if we fight, we can win!
