Drivers’ union Aslef agrees £500 deal for Olympics and Jubilee but RMT dismisses current “derisory” offer
Aslef has agreed a deal with London Underground to cover roster changes during this summer’s Olympics and the Jubilee celebrations in the capital.
Negotiators say drivers will receive £500 for accepting changes to the rosters during the 29 days of the games. They will also receive extra days leave for working over the Diamond Jubilee weekend of 2nd-5th June.
Aslef has around 2,200 members at LU.
However RMT members in London have dismissed as “derisory” an offer to operational staff which could total around £400 for the same four week period. The offer is dependent on individual staff meeting a range of employer’s targets to qualify for some of the payments.
General secretary Bob Crow said: “We will be meeting with the company again next week to press our case for a flat rate, across the board payment which recognises the contribution of all staff throughout the high pressure Olympics period.
“Other employers, notably London Overground and Network Rail, have come up with serious offers and agreements and we expect London Underground to do the same.”
The Olympics run between 27th July and 12th August, with the Paralympics following from 29th August to 9th September. Unions estimate there will be millions of extra passenger journeys around Greater London and the South East during the games.
