Workers at West of Scotland Signalling Centre to take action again after employer fails to engage with the union
The RMT has called two further 24 hour strikes at the West of Scotland Signalling Centre following a total failure by the management to make any progress in respect of settling the dispute over career progression.
A previous round of action had been suspended to allow for further talks but management have failed totally to engage with the union in finding a workable solution to the dispute.
The latest action will take place between 0559 on February 14th and 0558 on February 15th, and between 0559 on March 2nd and 0558 on March 3rd.
The two twenty four hour strikes follow a rock solid 72 hour strike of RMT members working at the West of Scotland Signalling Centre from Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day.
The dispute concerns management’s continuing refusal to adhere to a long standing local arrangement where, when a resident post becomes vacant, the senior General Purpose Relief (GPR) is slotted into that position. This has been in place for over three decades but management have suddenly refused to apply this custom and practice arrangement. RMT members are outraged at the behaviour of local management over this issue and are demanding action.
RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: “RMT has tried to reach a negotiated settlement to this unilateral ripping-up of a local arrangement but unfortunately the management have refused to see sense and have failed to engage with us at all since the strike action over Christmas. RMT members will not stand by while management unilaterally rip-up agreements and practices that have been in place at local level for decades.
“As a consequence of management’s continued intransigence we have no option but to go ahead with this further wave of strike action. RMT members are furious at this refusal to comply with a local arrangement that offers genuine career progression opportunities.
“RMT remains available for talks at any time aimed at resolving this dispute.”
